L.E.A.P. Teaching Artist - Part Time Contract

Position Summary 

Under the supervision of the Education Initiatives Manager, the L.E.A.P. Teaching Artist provides professional, engaging, culturally responsive instruction for students within the Blumenthal L.E.A.P. program. The artist will serve as a representative of Blumenthal Arts in the community at the program’s participating schools. L.E.A.P. is an in-school residency program that serves local Title I schools. This role will be required to work onsite at the program’s schools served (weekday daytime availability required) and remotely for administrative work/classroom planning. The L.E.A.P. Teaching Artist is a part-time contracted position. The estimated scope of work is 6 to 12 hours per week for 25 weeks - September to March following the CMS calendar. 

Duties and Resposibilities 

Classroom Instruction 

  • Serve as the lead teacher within the Blumenthal L.E.A.P. program as assigned.  

  • Prepare classroom materials in tandem with Program Classroom Assistant. 

  • Collaborate and communicate with Program Classroom Assistant about curriculum implementation and how this can be effectively facilitated. 

  • Provide guidance to the the Program Classroom Assistant on how best to assist with classroom management and support needed. 

  • Facilitate provided curriculum and meet all program deadlines for projects within. 

  • Utilize respectful, positive classroom management with students at all times. 

  • Participate in program trainings and orientations. 

  • Implement program documentation including student pre- and post-program assessment, students writing files, and curriculum files.   

  • Collaborate and communicate with classroom teachers at participating schools and other program teaching artists. 

  • Maintain relationships and communication serving as liaison for participating schools, teaching artists and BA Education Team.  

  • Assemble and organize all student materials for the final product of the program, a book featuring an individual story and piece of artwork from the participating students.  

  • Participate in the culminating event “LEAP Day” which takes place at Knight Theater. 

  • Contribute to program analysis providing constructive and proactive feedback for program adjustments and improvements.  

  • Arrange for substitutes to teach scheduled classes when necessary.  

 

 

 

Qualifications

Education and Expereince

  • Bachelor's degree in education, theater education, or similar field supplemented by two or more years of classroom experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with progressively increasing responsibility will be considered. 

  • Experience teaching in Title I schools preferred but not required. 

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. 

  • Strong classroom management skills. 

  • Ability to analyze problems, develop and implement creative solutions.  

  • Proven track record of teaming with staff, volunteers, school contacts, and a diverse group of stakeholders.  

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. 

  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
