Production Assistant

Position Summary
Blumenthal Arts seeks a dynamic team of Production Assistants to assist on special projects such as immersive art exhibitions, festivals, and other pop-up installations. The skills needed will vary from production to production, blending responsibilities of stage management, lighting and sound operation, prop and wardrobe management, and other essential production duties. Ideal candidates will thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments, and demonstrate expertise in one or more technical areas. Production Assistant positions are temporary based on organizational needs and include day work and project hire opportunities.

Duties & Responsibilities
Stage Management
- Coordinate daily production schedules, ensuring all elements are prepared and on time.
- Serve as the primary point of communication between creative, technical, and operations teams during setup, rehearsals, and live events.
- Maintain production documentation, including run sheets, cue sheets, and checklists.
- Work closely with FOH and BOH staff to ensure guest satisfaction by ensuring production runs smoothly and on time.
Lighting and Sound
- Operate and maintain lighting and sound equipment during rehearsal and performances.
- Execute lighting and sound cues per the creative team’s vision.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly to ensure seamless operations.
- Work closely with Technical Production staff to ensure equipment is properly setup and maintained throughout the run of the production.
Props and Set Maintenance
- Assist with the sourcing, preparation, and maintenance of props and set elements.
- Ensure all props are set and pieces are correctly positioned, functional, and safe for use.
- Coordinate with designers and technicians for repairs or replacements.
Wardrobe Management
- Assist with the preparation, organization, and maintenance of costumes and wardrobe pieces.
- Ensure performers’ costumes are clean, repaired, and properly fitted.
- Handle quick changes and costume adjustments during live performances or exhibitions.
- Maintain an inventory of wardrobe items and coordinate repairs or replacements as necessary.
General Production Support
- Assist with load-ins, load-outs, and daily venue setup and strike.
- Perform routine checks on all technical and scenic elements, identifying and addressing maintenance needs.
- Uphold safety standards and enforce best practices during all production activities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Minimum requirement of a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by 2 years of technical theater or production experience with a focus in stage management, lighting, sound, props, or wardrobe.
- Bachelor’s degree in technical theater preferred
- Experience in immersive or non-traditional performance spaces is a plus.
- Must live local to Charlotte, NC
