"TUNES"day--A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder "I've Decided to Marry You"
Don't let the title confuse you-- A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder is first and foremost a musical comedy. The production is based on the 1907 novel Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal by Roy Horniman.
This show is to "die" for. Don't believe me? At the 68th Tony Awards in June 2014, A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder won four Tonys including Best Musical. Pretty good, right?
It tells the story of Monty Navarro, an heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession by—you guessed it—eliminating the eight pesky relatives who stand in his way. All the while, Monty has to juggle his mistress (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (she’s his cousin but who’s keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars!
I don't want to give too much away, but I'll set up the scene below. The song "I've Decided to Marry You" takes place in Act II between the characters "Phoebe," "Sibella," and "Monty." It's a catchy song, that will probably get stuck in your head because the phrase "I've deceided to Marry You" is repeated a numerous amount of times.
