Blumenthal Performing Arts Series Debuts New OFF-BROADWAY LIGHTS SERIES
Charlotte, NC—The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center will debut a new OFF-BROADWAY LIGHTS SERIES featuring six productions this fall.
The new series includes: LATE NITE CATECHISM; The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s ALL THE GREAT BOOKS (abridged) and THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF AMERICA (abridged); THE MALE INTELLECT: AN OXYMORON?; I AM MY OWN WIFE; and CHARLOTTE SQUAWKS PLEADS THE FIFTH. “We’ve had great support for our recent theater events and felt the timing was right to offer some expanded options for theater fans,” said Center President Tom Gabbard. “We are especially pleased that we have been able to include two locally produced works—a remounting of Actors’ Theaters’ production I AM MY OWN WIFE and CHARLOTTE SQUAWKS PLEADS THE FIFTH—in the inaugural season along with three nationally touring shows.”The Off-Broadway Lights Series will be modeled after the Center’s highly successful Stanford Broadway Lights Series, which features national tours of Broadway’s best shows. The Off-Broadway Lights Series will attempt to capture the essence of Off-Broadway work, focusing on productions designed for small theaters and that are often highly original and inventive. The first season will feature an audience participation comedy (LATE NIGHT CATECHISM), a gripping, edgy drama (I AM MY OWN WIFE), a musical satire of the Queen City (CHARLOTTE SQUAWKS PLEADS THE FIFTH), a hilarious mix of stand-up comedy and theater in THE MALE INTELLECT: AN OXYMORON? and an uproarious spoof of literature and history with The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s two productions.Season subscriptions for the Off-Broadway Lights Series are available now and range in price from $79.65 to $186.30.
Season subscriptions are available for all five shows or buyers can select smaller subscriptions featuring the three or four shows of their choice.
