Two productions at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center
offer help for Haiti relief efforts and Local Charity
Charlotte, NC – The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center raised $10,549 for Haiti relief efforts through special fundraisers at two Center productions.
Cast members from the Broadway national tour of SPRING AWAKENING collected donations for the American Red Cross Haiti Disaster Relief in the Belk Theater lobby following each of their performances (Feb. 2 – 7).
In addition, all ticket proceeds from the first three performances of WOODY SEZ (Feb. 3 – 5) have been donated to the American Red Cross Haiti Disaster Relief.
“We’re grateful for the help of the cast of SPRING AWAKENING and our generous theatergoers to raise significant support for the relief efforts,” said Center President Tom Gabbard. “This is part of a national effort of the Broadway League to involve theaters in New York and across the country in raising desperately needed support for those in Haiti”.
Additionally, the cast members of WOODY SEZ performed at Wachovia Customer Information Center on Harris Boulevard on Friday, Feb. 5 and collected canned goods and monetary donations to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. The donations collected through this effort will feed a family of four 195 meals or 780 individual meals.
WOODY SEZ is a joyous, toe-tapping, and moving theatrical concert event that uses Woody’s words and songs to transport the audience through the fascinating, beautiful, and sometimes tragic life of Woody Guthrie. More than twenty-five of Woody's songs are performed by a talented group of four versatile actor/musicians. Not only does the cast play 15 instruments ranging from guitar and fiddle to jaw harp and dulcimer, but they also bring to life the many people who are the fabric of Woody Guthrie's amazing story.
WOODY SEZ runs through Feb. 21 at the Booth Playhouse. Tickets can be purchased online at BlumenthalCenter.org, by phone at 704-372-1000, or from the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Box Office located in the Tryon Street lobby of the Belk Theater.
