What good is sitting alone in your room? Glad you asked, Sally Bowles.
Right now, social distancing is the absolute best thing we can do to ensure the health and well-being of everyone in our community and particularly those who are most vulnerable to illness. We hope you and your loved ones are out of harm’s way.
While you’re at home, here are some Broadway-themed activities to help pass the time until it’s safe for us all to come back to the cabaret.
ONLINE TRIVIA
These are free and fun ways to test your Broadway know-how. Watch out because they can be addictive as you try to fill in the missing lyrics, name the stars from their early Playbill bios or solve musical math problems.
Looking for even more online competition? Tons of Broadway theater quizzes can be found on sporcle.com. Can you beat the clock naming shows based on their Playbill artwork or fill in the Broadway shows from A-Z based solely on song titles? Create an account and you’ll be able to keep track of your scores and compete against other Broadway fans in challenges and showdowns.
BROADWAY THEMED PUZZLES
You can spend hours getting lost in these giant puzzles. I never thought of myself as a “puzzle person” until I tried this one with my husband and kids. Beyond the satisfaction of Putting It Together (catch the Sondheim reference?), is the fun of identifying each of the featured shows and personalities. Highly recommended to be completed accompanied by your favorite showtunes. The puzzle we constructed is currently sold out so here are some other great options to fill your time.
Playbill presents The Best of Broadway Series 5 - This 1,000 piece puzzle features Playbill artwork from tons of recent shows.
Broadway's Brightest Stars - Audra McDonald, Neil Patrick Harris, Patti Lupone, Daveed Diggs—we see you! Who else can you find on this 1,000 piece puzzle?
Assorted 30-piece Musical Theater-themed Puzzles - Need something smaller with a theater theme? This site has loads of options.
BOARD GAMES
Looking for ways to keep the family occupied? These board games may be just what you need for a little musical diversion.
Encore: You Got the The Word... Can You Sing the Song? - Great for music fans of all ages. Draw a card with a list of words on it. Choose one and see how many song lyrics you and your opponents can sing that include it.
Spontuneous - Another singing game but this time you think of a word from a song and try to stump the other players. The first one to blurt out a line from a song with that lyric moves ahead on the game board.
Be a Broadway Star - Do you have what it takes to get cast in a show or win a Tony Award? This game combines luck, musical theater trivia and fun challenges (like singing a Rodgers and Hammerstein song as a rock anthem, laughing like an evil villain, or crying on cue!)
