CHARLOTTE, NC – The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture invites the community to learn from members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at a free “Get to Know The Show” lecture/demonstration. This special event will take place Monday, Feb. 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Knight Theater.
The program, led by Ailey dancers, consists of narration, warm-up exercises, common dance movements and short excerpts from popular pieces of their repertory. The narration includes a brief history of the company and discussion of the commitment, discipline and hard work involved in becoming a professional dancer – elements common to achievement of any personal goal. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and personally meet the cast.
