Kennedy Center President to visit Charlotte

Aug 3, 2009 /

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center will host the Charlotte stop of the 50-state tour for Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative on August 14 at the Booth Playhouse. Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser will conduct a free arts leadership symposium from 9:00 a.m. until noon as part of the tour. Michael Marsicano, President and CEO of Foundation for the Carolinas, will be moderating the discussion with Kaiser.

This symposium will be aimed at engaging arts organization staff, trustees, volunteers, and funders, as well as leaders in the arts education community, in the discussion around sustainability. Kaiser will address the challenges facing non-profit performing arts organizations today through such areas as fundraising, building more effective Boards of Trustees, budgeting, and marketing.

“Each locality is dealing with its own unique and specific challenges, and there is no better way to understand each region than through in-person visits,” said Kaiser. “Communicating in person allows us to be more effective in advising organizations in need.”

Since the initiative’s launch in February 2009, the Kennedy Center has hosted symposia and arts community conversations in major cities across the country, including Boston, Chicago, San Diego, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Francisco, Baltimore, Detroit and Washington, D.C. Kaiser is traveling to cities across the country to extend his arts management expertise and personal support throughout the nation.
